The brand new Volkl
DNX 8 is the subject of this review. About a year ago Volkl
introduced the "DNX" fiber to racquets as an exclusive. As far as
I can tell "DNX" fibers are actually hollow fiber tubes (very
tiny tubes) which add strength and stiffness where desired without
adding weight. The "DNX" fiber is used at the throat, and "sides"
of the racquet. These materials and the design of the racquet add
up to one really nice playing racquet for many player styles.
More later.
Here are some of the important specs for this racquet:

| 331
| Swing Weight (the power number)
| 314 | Recoil Weight (Stability on volleys. Higher numbers are better)
| 152.4 | Center of Percussion (COP) Sometimes referred to as the "sweet spot")
| 21.369 from butt end
| Power Calculation
| 2136.48 | Dwell Time (calculated length of time the ball is in contact with the string)

| True Tension Professional | The
overall weight of 10.8 ounces may sound like a lot but the ease of
movement of this racquet is impressive! The swing weight
of 314 contributes to this maneuverability but still is
enough to send the ball on a pretty good ride. I would like to
have a little more swing weight and would tweak this racquet up to
330. If you like to take a really big swing the 314 should work
well for you.
The precision of the racquet really puts
this package in perspective. What good is power if you can't find
the right amount of control? The control characteristics of this
racquet are really obvious when serving. It is easy to re-arrange
the head position during the swing to place the ball precisely where
you planned (well, most of the time). If you are in position,
hitting topspin backhands is really a pleasure. If you are not
quite as prepared you can easily slice the backhand.
The recoil
weight of 152 confirms the maneuverability of this racquet. For pure
serve and volley play I would get the recoil weight up to about 158.
The
head size of 100 square inches seems to be the "right" size, and
shape, for this racquet, and, the wonderful Volkl grip system adds
to the comfort needed for aggressive play, and for
long matches. The Volkl grip pallet can be changed, by us,
to accommodate any grip size. We keep all grip pallets in
stock.
The red and silver colors make this one of the best looking racquets around, according to our customers.
This
racquet will suit a 3.5 looking to be more aggressive. With a little
tweaking this racquet is equally at home in the hands of 5.0
players as well.
The price of $149.99 puts this racquet in a perfect position when comparing performance to racquets costing more.
